During 2001/2002, several major CDMA-based wirelessrnnetwork carriers deployed Location Based Services (LBS)rnin Japan, Korea and the USA. The carriers chosernQualcomm's gpsOneTM end-to-end system solution forrnthese deployments. The two main components of thernsystem are Qualcomm's gpsOneTM client implementationrnand SnapTrack's Position Determination Entity (PDE)rnserver product. The applications range from gaming andrnpersonal navigation services to commercial security andrnEnhanced 911 (E911). It is anticipated that the number ofrnfuture applications will expand to include a wide range ofrnvalue added services (VAS).rnThis paper describes the network architectures, messagingrnprotocols, and positioning measurements used to supportrnthese applications. Processing GPS, terrestrial and otherrnmeasurements concurrently presents several challenges.rnThese complexities and the characteristics of the variousrnmeasurement types are discussed. Positioning resultsrnfrom actual network data are presented to demonstrate therninitial performance achieved.
