Remarkable catalytic properties of gold particles (2-3 nm), supported on TiO_2 were evidenced by Haruta et al., for CO oxidation at low temperature. Au/ TiO_2 catalysts prepared by deposition- precipitation were found as the most active. The origin of the surprising reactivity of gold particles on TiO_2 (or other substrates) is still unknown. One of the hypothesis is that the structure of gold particles is modified by the strong interactions with the support. Here we present an HRTEM study of the structure of gold nanoclusters prepared by deposition precipitation.
