Online Repair of Cracked Stainless Steel Bolts on Ethylene Furnace Isolation Valve

This paper describes the repair that was performed in-place on a Pyrolysis Furnace Isolation Valve. While isolating a furnace for decoking, the yoke and actuator section of the Furnace Isolation Valve began to rise off of the body of the valve. The operator actuating the valve immediately stopped the motor and notified the proper plant personnel. This paper will provide the following information: 1. Simplified Process Description. 2. Description of Valve Failure. 3. Bolt Failure Mechanism. 4. Inspection Performed Prior to Repair Work. 5. Valve Design 6. Repair Method. 7. Other Repair Options Evaluated.
