Preliminary investigations on the possibility of applying water-jets in tunnel excavation

Investigations have been undertaken into the feasibility of using abrasive water jetting and water jet assisted drag tool cutting to create slots ahead of an advancing tunnel face at shallow depth in hard rock. The slots allow ground support to be placed ahead of the face, which produces a safer working environment and reduced settlement to surface structures when applied in urban areas.
