This paper presents the results of a realtimernsoftware L1 GPS receiver. This workrndemonstrates it is possible to take rawrnintermediate frequency (IF) GPS samples andrnprocess those samples exclusively on arnprogrammable microprocessor. All processingrnfrom the computationally expensive correlationrnto position solution specific algorithms arernimplemented in software using ANSI C. An IntelrnMMX/SSE version has been evaluated.rnThis paper shows that high-end multichannelrndesigns of software radio GlobalrnNavigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) receiversrnare possible on a low-end general purposernprocessor or even a single low cost DigitalrnSignal Processor (DSP) chip.rnThe work presented here is a scalablernand flexible GPS Software Receiver (gpSrx) thatrnprovides sub-second acquisition and solves forrnposition in real-time using four channels on arn160 MHz Texas Instrument DSP processor.rnThe particular implementationrndescribed reached semifinal of the TexasrnInstruments DSP Challenge 2001.
