Wave and Wind Micro-climates in Saronikos Gulf

The purpose of this paper is the analysis of small-scale variations ofrnwave and wind characteristics in Saronikos Gulf in Athens. This area isrnof great interest since the sailing competition of the Olympic Gamesrnwill take place there in August 2004. The prevailing winds duringrnAugust are a combination of the “etesians” and sea breeze. The bottomrnand coastal morphology and the heavy ship-traffic in the SaronikosrnGulf shape the evolution of wave characteristics, resulting at localizedrnwind and wave climates. Due to the complicated behavior of wind andrnwave directions, a major part of the analysis is based in the use ofrndirectional statistics.
