To develop new structural materials resistant to energetic particle irradiation, knowledge ofthe mechanical behaviors of materials is the first prerequisite, which is essential for determiningthe lifetime of the structures. Effects of the low-energy ion irradiation on mechanical behaviorsof f-SiC ceramics were systematically studied by using molecular dynamics (MD) simulation.The Tersoff potential and the Ziegler-Biersack-Littmark (ZBL) potential were combined togetherto describe the interaction between the SiC atoms. Considering the effects of the irradiationenergy, we discussed the changes in mechanical properties on the basis of the data obtained by MDsimulation. Understanding of the low-energy ion irradiation effect on the deformation mechanismof the ceramics is achieved at the atomic scale.
