The rise of distributed generation units especially in low and medium voltage grids leads to a demand for more sophisticated protection and control schemes. Since dedicated protection systems as used in high voltage levels are too costly for a wide-spread usage in medium and low voltage levels, a centralisation of protection functionality may be a promising solution. However, with traditional type testing, only single protection functions are validated. With function centralisation, application testing of protection systems gains greater significance. Application testing is based on real-time simulations of power grids. To reduce time and effort in creating the required grid models, automation is the golden way. Using data models according to IEC 61970-301 and IEC 61850-6, a way for automated grid model creation and test procedure configuration is found. This requires analysing and matching the given data models to be able to retrieve the information required for an automated configuration.
