Electrochemical methods application for the natural water purification of nitrate ions

摘要

The acuteness of the problem of nitrates in the potable water in Moldova is conditioned by the presence of more than 50 mg/ml of nitrates in about 62% of wells and 5% of artesian wells. The nitrate removing from natural waters using the electrochemical method has been studied as a dependence of nitrate initial concentration, period of water sample treatment by soluble anodes in the electrochemical cell, sedimentation time, current density, nature of metal anode (Fe, Al or Mg), and period of water sample treatment by insoluble anodes in the electrochemical cell. Water treatment has been realized in two steps; the first step includes the reducing of nitrates into nitrites by soluble anodes in electrochemical cell; the second step includes the reducing of nitrites by insoluble anodes. Both nitrite reducing (the processes of the second step), take place in the same installation and at the same conditions.
