A calibration of the piezo elements of the scanner of an electrochemical scanning tunneling microscope (EC-STM) is presented The system consisting in Cu(100) electrode in hydrochloric acid dilute solution has been chosen due to ability to attain atomic resolution and the well known c(2 x 2) structure entailed by chloride anions adsorption. Statistic measurements were carried out by varying the scanning angle and tunneling parameters; the drift speeds in both x and y directions were evaluated. The calibration factor of the scanner piezo-elements was established and the adsorbate-adsorbate distance, d_(C1~- - C1~-), was estimated with a precision better than 10%.
