The pitch binding power is an important physical property of this one. Because, in great part, the mechanical strength of the final products (carbonizated and/or graphitizated) depends on this. If we admit that the pitch binding power means the power of this one to include an inert during the carbonizing process that is corresponding very well to the binding ability of pitch, we shall can use the Roga Method (for establishing the agglutination capacity of bituminous coals), with some minor modifications, such as: a) the pitch share increases from 16.66% to25% ( ≈the real share of the binding agent in the most common recipes); b)the different stages of the binding power will be proportionaly modified depending on the inferior and superior limits that the Roga Index can take in this case. The binding power can also be calculated if they are known: the quinoline insoluble content (α), the coke yield (η_c) and the medium dimension of the anisotropical shape (AD), according with a correlation factor F=α·η_e·AD~2 and-with a dependence function of the binding power on this factor: f(F)= -0.1087F~2 + 3.6729 F+16.263. The above numerical value of this function is compared with the differentiation system, obtaining in this way, the binding power that was qualitatively expressed.
