In recent years, glass industry has been actively promoting the oxy-fuel combustion for environmental protection. Additionally, because of the increasingly stringent quality requirements, the melting temperature has become higher. So the atmosphere for refractories, which is used for the superstructure of the glass furnace, has become increasingly harsh. Also the selection of refractories has become an important issue. Given this background, the results of basic evaluation about various refractories (fused cast refractories, silica, mullite and spinel bonded refractories) are reported, such as the physical properties under high-temperature, corrosion test by glass vapor and etc.
