The electromagnetic force is obtained from the interaction between the driving coil and the armature in the coil launcher. Currently, the solid armature made of aluminium column is adopted. In order to improve the total efficiency of the coil launcher, one kind of structure scheme of the single-layer winding armature (SLWA) is proposed. Its electromagnetic field characteristic is investigated. And the finite element method simulation is performed. The results indicate that the eddy current distribution and efficiency of the single-layer winding armature obviously excel the solid armature under the same working conditions, although the eddy current distribution in the single-layer winding armature is uniform. However, the problems may be solved by the improvement of structure design of winding armature.
