In this paper, the importance of diamond-holding strength of saw blade segment matrix is emphasized by analyzed the working characteristic of saw blade. Chemical inertial of diamond and thermal stress in diamond/matrix system caused by the difference of coefficient of thermal expansion between diamond and matrix are considered as main factors influencing the diamond-holding strength of matrix. The influencing mechanism of each factor is theoretically analyzed. Four practical ways to improve diamond-holding strength of matrix are introduced: surface metallization of diamond, adding some special constituent such as carbide forming element and rare earth element to matrix, using pre-alloyed bond metal powder and optimizing sintering process.
