摘要

Influences of diatom microfossils on geotechnical behaviour of cohesive soils subjected to various crushing normal pressures have been investigated. The study shows that application of crushing normal pressure causes a significant decrease in compressibility and also a decrease in friction angle of diatomaceous soils. Gradual breakage of microfossil skeletons is responsible for the change in the geotechnical behaviour of such soils when subjected to large normal pressure.
