Regional Ecological Safety Evaluation Based on Ecological Footprint Theory

Ecological footprint analysis is a new method which has been used in recent years for quantitativestudy and judging the sustainable development condition of a country or a region. Ecological Footprint evaluates the coordination between social and economical activities demands for ecological system service and thecapacity of ecological service by calculating the biophysical parameters. It has been widely applied in sustamable development assessment due to its novel viewpoint and simplified calculation. This paper uses theoryand method of ecological footprint to evaluate ecological safety condition of Zhengzhou city. Results showthat per capita ecological footprint increases rapidly from2001 to 2010, while per capita ecological carryingcapacity decreases. The study can provide theoretical references for concerned departments.
