Introduction The objective of the present study is to analyze and clarify the differences in the interface stress distributions between2-D and 3-D FEM when tensile loadings are applied to the scarf adhesive joints with dissimilar adherends.In particular,the effect of scarf angle on the interface stress distributions and the joint strength in the case where the width of the adherends is held constant needs to be compared with that in the case where the adhesive length is held constant(with varied width of adherends) as used in the previous studies.
