Metabolism study, which plays a critical role in support of drug developmentand clinical medication,is one of the important issues for intensive understanding of therapeuticbenefits/risks of medicines.Herbal medicine (HM) has long attracted much attention worldwide inboth academic and industrial fields. However, metabolism study on HM remains very challenging, because HM is a complicated system with multi-components compared to synthetic drugs.Owingto multiple constituents that might be involved in the metabolic process and affected each other, the metabolism profile of HMs may be drastically different from those of pure compounds in HMs.To solve these problems, this paper proposed an integral method based on ultrahigh performanceliquid chromatography coupled with diode array detection and quadrupole time-of-flight massspectrometry (UPLC/DAD/QTOFMS) platform for metabolic and pharmacokinetic study ofmulti-component HM. Tibetan "Snow Lotus" herb (Saussurea lahiceps,SL) severed as a modelherb to verify the feasibility of the present method.
