The Asian monsoon system represents one of the most dynamic interactions of thecontinent-ocean-atmosphere systems on the globe. It controls much of the Asian climate variations.Particularly, the monsoon-associated precipitation forms a basis of how to manage impacts on the environmentand to organize societal and economic activities in the densely populated Asia.Climate model experimentshave suggested that uplift of the Tibetan Plateau and retreat of the Paratethys sea in western Asia associatedwith the Indo-Asia collision during the Cenozoic era can result in monsoon intensification.
