Anew potential ligand, 4-(2-carboxyethylamino)benzoic acid, was synthesized from p-Aminobenzoic acid and 3-chloropropanoic acid in KOH aqueous solution under N2 atmosphere, and it was characterized by 1H NMR, IR and X-Ray diffractionmeter. The structure was refined to R = 0.0591 and wR = 0.1654 for 2059 observed reflections (I > 2σ(I)). The crystallographic results of molecule 1 show that this title ligand has 1D H2O chain and four types of hydrogen bond, thus they form a 2D layer polymer.
