The Middle Jurassic Daohugou deposit of China is amongst the most important insect Lagerstatten.Although the exceptionally preserved fossils have attracted a multitude of palaeontological studies dealing with the systematics and taxonomy during the last ten years, their taphonomic process and preservational environment remain unexplored.rn Palaeontinidae and Tettigarctidae are common large arboreal cicadas during Mesowic times. Both groups are well represented by a large number ofspecimens from Daohugou, making them well suited for studies of taphonomic variability at familial level. The object of this work is to documentthe taphonomic variability of Palaeontinidae and Tettigarctidae, investigate the taphonomic processes of two groups, and interpret how intrinsic factors control taphonomic patterns.
