Gold is used in many fields, such as in electrical appliance ndustries and as catalysts for chemical processing and ewelry. The demand for gold has increased annually since 2007 and constantly remains at a high level. Recently, a variety of biomass sorbents (biosorbents) prepared from biomass wastes and natural resources, ncluding cellulose and lignin, have been tested for gold separation from aqueous solution. Although these biosorbents show efficient gold adsorption in dilute solutions, he preparation processes are complex and use a lot of organic chemicals. Moreover, some local metal recyclers believe that an economic approach for removal of Au ions from dilute aqueous solution (less than 10 ppm) is needed. Consequently, in this study, we aimed to develop a simple ow-cost biosorbent production approach to produce a biosorbent that possesses good gold adsorption ability in dilute solution.
