In one aspect, a ferrite composition comprises a BiRuCo-M type ferrite having the formula Me1-xBixCoyRuzFe12-tO19, wherein Me is at least one of Sr, Pb or Ba; x is 0.01 to 0.5; y is 0.1 to 2; z is 0 to 4 and is 10 to 4; wherein the Co can be at least partially replaced by at least one of the elements Zn, Cu or Mg in an amount less than y and the Ru can be at least partially replaced by at least one of the elements Ti, Sn or Zr, the amount of substitution being no more than z is or less than z.
