A method for wireless communications by a UE is provided comprising receiving a downlink control channel including a slot format indicator, SFI and an uplink or downlink grant for transmission; and determining a format of a current slot based on the SFI and the uplink or downlink grant, wherein the format of the current slot is determined based at least in part on prioritizing the uplink or downlink grant given the SFI.
