A method of manufacturing a clay-wood composite element for use as a ceiling element in a building comprises at least the following steps: providing a plurality of elongate beams (2) made of wood, arranging the plurality of elongate beams (2) side by side and at a transverse distance from one another on a surface, a gap being formed between adjacent elongate supports (2),at least partially filling the gap or gaps with clay. (3), andcompacting the clay (3) while maintaining the transverse spacing, in particular by mechanically tamping the clay (3).
