[Problem] To provide an article movement device that has a simple configuration with fewer parts and can freely place, separate, and move articles without damaging the articles, and also to provide an article storage device that can simply store articles in packaging without damaging the articles using said article movement device that has a simple configuration with fewer parts. [Solution] An article movement device 5 provided to an article storage device 1 comprises: a chain 57a and a chain 57b that each have an upper portion and a lower portion that is formed so as to curve in a U-shape from the upper portion; a first slider 53u and a first sliding plate 60u that are movable and fix respective one end portions Pa and Pb of the chain 57a and the chain 57b at the upper portions thereof; and a second slider 53d and a second sliding plate 60 that are movable and fix the respective other end portions of the chain 57a and the chain 57b at the lower portions thereof. The article movement device 5 is provided with: a first mode in which the first slider 53u and the first sliding plate 60u are fixed and the second slider 53d and the second sliding plate 60 are moved so as to enable an article to be placed on an upper surface or separated from the upper surface using only the rigidity of the chain 57a and the chain 57b; and a second mode in which the first slider 53u and the first sliding plate 60u are moved so as to enable an article placed using only the rigidity of the chain 57a and the chain 57b to be moved.
