Disclosed are a vehicle cluster device and a method for providing a telltail image replacing a cluster image. The device includes a display engine that generates a cluster image frame based on a plurality of vehicle status information, a microcontroller unit that generates Telltale image data based on some predefined vehicle status information among the plurality of vehicle status information; and connected to the display engine and the microcontroller unit, generating a telltail image frame based on the telltail image data, and selectively outputting the cluster image frame or the telltail image frame according to the control of the microcontroller unit wherein the microcontroller unit outputs a control signal for requesting selection of the telltale image frame to the image control engine when an error occurs in the cluster image frame.
