Method for calibrating a target simulator for an active environment detection system, which comprises a first signal path with a receiving device, a second signal path with a transmitting device and a simulator unit. After receiving an electromagnetic signal from an environment detection system, the simulator unit is designed to generate signal characteristics for a simulated echo signal and to control the transmission device in order to generate an echo signal corresponding to the signal characteristics. The method includes the generation of a test signal by means of the transmission device. The test signal is reflected onto the receiving device by means of a reference reflector and measured to calibrate an overall signal path, comprising the first and the second signal path, in order to determine a first deviation of a parameter from a first reference value. The method also includes calibrating either the first or the second transmission path by means of a calibration device which is either set up to generate a calibration signal for calibrating the first signal path or to measure a calibration signal from the transmission device for calibrating the second signal path in order to calculate a second deviation of the Determine parameters from a second reference value. The still uncalibrated signal path is calibrated by offsetting the first deviation with the second deviation.
