To provide a device and a method for estimating the weight of the body of an animal which allow an easy and still precise estimation of the weight of an animal body by specifying the posture of the animal body.SOLUTION: A body weight estimation device 11 includes: a three-dimensional measurement unit 13 for taking an image of the body of an animal and acquiring three-dimensional point group data; a head part position specification unit 15 for specifying the position of the head of the animal body from image data generated from the three-dimensional point group data; a posture estimation unit 16 for estimating the posture of the animal body using the position of the head part of the animal body as an index; and a body weight estimation unit 17 for estimating the body weight of the animal body on the basis of the regression model for each posture defined according to the posture of the animal body.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
