Disclosed are a convolutional neural network-based drowsiness detection apparatus and method for detecting a drowsy state such as an initial drowsiness state by a convolutional neural network (CNN) based on EEG data around the ear. A convolution-based drowsiness detection method according to an embodiment of the present invention includes: collecting an EEG signal around a user's ear by an EEG signal collecting unit; and detecting the drowsiness state of the user based on the EEG signal by a convolutional neural network classifier.
