A flow table overflow attack defense system and method for SDN dynamically adjusts the timeout, which is the time that a flow rule remains in a flow table, based on the history, which is the number of packets, so that the attack flow is cleared from the flow table faster. This has the effect of reducing the overhead caused by re-installing the rules.
