The invention relates to a method for classifying polysomnography uptake into defined sleep stages, wherein the method comprises essentially the following steps:• Classification of a person's sleep into a grid with different sleep stages,• Acquisition of a plurality of information on body functions over a predetermined period of time in the form of data, wherein the acquisition of the plurality of information includes at least one measurement and storage of the electrical activity of the brain over a predetermined period of time during sleep of a test subject,• subdivision of the recorded data into time-dependent data blocks,• Selecting a predetermined number of data blocks from the collected data blocks containing information about the electrical activity of the brain,• automatic evaluation of the electrical activity data of the brain in each selected data block using a cross-frequency coupling method,• automatic assignment of the evaluated data blocks to a sleep stage.
