SOLUTION: Ion-exchangeable layered silicate particles having the following properties (i) and (ii). Property (i): In the pore distribution curve calculated by the BJH method from the desorption isotherm measured by the nitrogen adsorption and desorption method, the total pore volume with a diameter of 2 nm to 10 nm is 40% of the total mesopore volume.
