The example transmitter (104) includes first and second circuit stages (250, 252) and an interface circuit (206). The first circuit stage is configured to generate modulated signals each having a different carrier frequency from the baseband signal. The second circuit stage is configured to generate radio frequency (RF) energy radiated by the antenna (110). The interface circuit is coupled between the first circuit stage and the second circuit stage. The second circuit stage and the interface circuit can be configured to provide a first mode and a second mode. In the first mode, the second circuit stage provides a transmission path (114) and the interface circuit couples each modulated signal to one of the transmission paths. In the second mode, the second circuit stage provides a first transmission path (114), and the interface circuit couples the sum of at least two of the modulation signals to the first transmission path.
