Artificial kidney device without dialysate

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an artificial kidney device containing no suitable dialysate. Devices, methods for the treatment of blood are described and the device can be used in conjunction with or in place of a dysfunctional kidney. The device includes an ultrafiltration unit for removing proteins, red blood cells, white blood cells, and other high molecular weight components, a nanofiltration unit for removing glucose, and at least one electrodeionization for transporting ions from the bloodstream. Includes a unit, a reverse osmosis unit for regulating water flow to both blood flow and urinary flow. In one embodiment, each channel has multiple chambers defining multiple dilution fluid channels filled with ion-specific resin wafers, and electrodes at the tip of the device and close to each of the resin-filled diluent channels. A special electrodeionization unit having is provided. Selective application of voltage to these electrodes can turn on or off the ion transport functionality of a given dilution channel.
