The present disclosure provides a composition effective in preventing, suppressing the progression of, or treating diseases associated with endoplasmic reticulum stress such as defective vesicular transport or disorders such as cell death caused by the toxicity of all-trans-retinal, and/or a composition for protecting the retina.　Provided are: a composition for treating or preventing diseases, disorders, or conditions associated with endoplasmic reticulum stress, the composition containing a retinal regulator; a composition for treating or preventing diseases, disorders, or conditions associated with all-trans-retinal, the composition containing a retinal regulator; and a composition for protecting the retina, the composition containing a retinal regulator. By using the retinal regulator, the cis/trans ratio of retinal is controlled and the amount or concentration of all-trans-retinal generated in association with photoreception by rhodopsin is reduced. This promises a therapeutic effect against diseases associated with endoplasmic reticulum stress, diseases associated with all-trans-retinal, or the like and a retina protection effect.
