In accordance with the present invention, a system, method and computer readable medium are provided for determining a predefined sequence sequence of transfers for transferring an object from a source point in a source array to a destination point in a destination array in a laboratory automation system. For each transition to the next move, the cost of moving the first and second components between the current and next transport positions is determined. The transition movement cost is determined from the first and second component movement costs. The cost of each sequence of predefined transfers is based on the sum of the cost of transitional moves for each sequence of transfers. The analyzed sequence order may be based on the lowest cost sequence order.
