A method for producing fresh water from aqueous salt solutions includes evaporating water while heating an aqueous salt solution stream to obtain an aqueous salt concentrate stream and a steam stream. A steam stream is removed from the aqueous salt concentrate stream. The water vapor stream is cooled with the transfer of water vapor condensate, which is fresh water, into the stream. A method for producing fresh water from aqueous salt solutions includes evaporating water while heating an aqueous salt solution stream to obtain an aqueous salt concentrate stream and a steam stream. A steam stream is removed from the aqueous salt concentrate stream. The water vapor stream is cooled with the transfer of water vapor condensate, which is fresh water, into the stream.
