To provide a method and apparatus that more appropriately evaluate the distortion of a permanent cathode which makes it possible to efficiently and more appropriately correct the distortion of a permanent cathode in a distortion correction process.SOLUTION: A distance D in the thickness direction of an electrode plate portion from the vertical surface corresponding to the distortion of a permanent cathode is calculated based on the measurement distances of a total of nine measurement positions of three positions, i.e., a left end portion, a center portion, and a right end portion in the horizontal direction, for each of three positions, i.e., an upper end portion, a center portion, and a lower end portion in the vertical direction in the electrode plate portion, and at least two measurement positions in the horizontal direction in a lower portion from the central portion in the vertical direction to the lower end portion in the electrode plate portion.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
