Split cooling system for an internal combustion engine (1) of a motor vehicle comprising a main circuit (7) with a radiator assembly (9) and a secondary circuit (8) with a heating assembly (10),of which the main circuit (7) is intended to be fluid-conducting connected to the coolant jacket of a crankcase (3) of the internal combustion engine (1), and the secondary circuit (8) is intended to be fluid-conducting connected to the coolant jacket of a cylinder head (4) of the internal combustion engine (1), wherein at least the main circuit (7) can be shut off by means of a control device (11), wherein the control device (11) is arranged downstream of the cylinder head (4) and the crankcase (3) and the two circuits (7, 8) are at least partially connected by means of the control device (11), characterized by this, that the so interconnected,the cylinder head (4) and the crankcase (3) leaving partial flows of coolant are conductive at least partially together in a fifth control position (R5) of the control medium (11) to the radiator assembly (9) and in a sixth control position (R6) of the control medium (11) to the heating arrangement (10), while they are at least partially lockable in a first control position (R1) of the control means (11) in their transmission, wherein a leakage channel (17) formed in the control means (11) is provided, which is designed for this purpose, allow a low flow of coolant into the secondary circuit (8) when the control medium (11) is shut off.
