An external device (10), a handheld gimbal assembly (100), and a handheld gimbal (20). The handheld gimbal (20) is provided with a clamping slot (21). The external device (10) comprises a body (11), a clamping hook (12) and an elastic member (13), wherein the clamping hook (12) can be in a locked position or a released position relative to the body (11). When the external device (10) is connected to the handheld gimbal (20), the clamping hook (12) is in the locked position and fits with the clamping slot (21). When the clamping hook (12) is in the released position, the clamping hook (12) is separated from the clamping slot (21). Two ends of the elastic member (13) are respectively connected to the body (11) and the clamping hook (12), and the elastic member (13) is used for providing, to the clamping hook (12), a restoring force for keeping the clamping hook in the locked position. The clamping hook (12) is switched, when pushed by an external force, from the locked position to the released position, and when the external force is withdrawn, the clamping hook (12) is switched from the released position to the locked position under the action of the restoring force.
