An inverter system is provided such that the system includes a direct-current (DC) voltage supply electrically coupled with a DC link, a plurality of inverters, each electrically coupled with the DC link, a plurality of electric machines where each electric machine is electrically coupled with one of the inverters, and a controller coupled with each of the inverters. The controller can control carrier signals of the inverters such that the carrier signals are synchronized and interleaved at an angle (ϴ) that is determined based on the waveform type of the carrier signals and the number of inverters in the system.
