A method for the selection of a sensor (1) from a plurality of sensors for sensor-based sorting of a material mixture (10) on the basis of a material property for the concentration of a recyclable material, wherein, in a first step, representative individual samples (20) are taken from the material mixture (10), in a second step material properties of the individual samples are measured (30), in a third step, on the basis of the measured material properties, a number of simulated sortings is simulated, in each case according to different material properties (40), in a fourth step a simulated sorting with a high recyclable material concentration is selected from the plurality of simulated sortings, in a fifth step a sensor (1) for measuring the material property is selected (50), which sensor is suitable for measuring at least one of the material properties that was used for the selected simulated sorting.
