Aspects of the present invention relate to a data collection system (36) for a renewable energy power plant (12) comprising a plurality of renewable energy generators (14). The system (36) comprises a temporary data store (42) in communication with the generators (14). The temporary data store (42) is configured to: receive a stream of data from at least two of the generators (14); and temporarily store the received data. The system (36) comprises a permanent data store (46) for storing data for subsequent analysis. The system (36) comprises a processor (44) in communication with the temporary and permanent data stores (42, 44) and a plurality of trigger sources (48). The processor (46) is configured to, in response to receiving a trigger signal from one of the plurality of trigger sources (48), cause temporarily-stored data from the temporary 15 data store (42) to be stored in the permanent data store (44).
