Disclosed are a radiometry device and method for measuring solar irradiance, wherein the device (1) comprises: an optical fibre (3), with a core (11) and a cover (12), a beam of solar light (2) hitting same; an optical-power measuring module (4); and a signal processing module (5). The method comprises the steps of: obtaining one or more optical power measurements, P0,λi; obtaining the gross solar irradiance, ∅gross,λi, as a ratio of optical power, P0,λi to the surface area of the core (11) of the optical fibre (3) exposed to the beam of solar light (2); calculating a correction factor, FCλi; and obtaining a solar irradiance measurement as the product of the gross solar irradiance and the correction factor.
