The invention relates to a method for computing a first thermal parameter at a predetermined time in a sediment layer (16) of a passive margin area (10). The method comprises the following steps:- obtaining a geometry of the asthenospheric and lithospheric layers (12, 14) and of the sediment layers (16) of the passive margin area (10) at the current time,- computing a geometry of the asthenospheric and lithospheric layers (12, 14) for the predetermined time using a rifting model,- computing a second thermal parameter in the asthenospheric and lithospheric layers (12, 14) for the predetermined time,- computing a geometry of the sediments layers (16) for the predetermined time using a geodynamic basin model,- computing the first thermal parameter in the sediment layer (16) for the predetermined time using the computed geometry of the sediment layers (16) and the value of the computed second thermal parameter.
