Illumination devices 20, 40 are disclosed. The lighting device 20, 40 comprises a segmented light guide 19 comprising a plurality of segments 21, 22, each segment 21, 22 being arranged on a side of the light guide 19 with a respective first light incouple plane. Each of the segments 21, 22 is configured to convert at least a portion of the light input to it into light having a selected wavelength range. The light guide 19 extends in the axial direction between a first base surface 25 at one end 23 of the light guide 19 and a second base surface 26 at another end 24 of the light guide 19. The base surface 25 and the second base surface 26 are arranged in different segments of the segments 21 and 22. At least a portion of the first base surface 25 includes a second light incoupling surface for coupling light into the light guide 19, and at least a portion of the second base surface 26 couples light from the light guide 19. It has a light-out couple surface for out. The lighting devices 20, 40 are at least one first light emitting element 29 configured to emit light in a first wavelength range, wherein the light emitted by the at least one first light emitting element 29 is first. At least one first light-emitting element 29 optically coupled to the second light-in-coupled surface so as to be coupled into the light guide 19 via the two light-in-coupled surfaces. One light emitting element 29 is configured to reflect back to the light guide 19 at least a portion of incident light having a wavelength within at least one of the selected wavelength ranges.
