To provide a method for removing an open shield machine that can shorten a length of an arrival shaft when the open shield machine is made to reach the constructed arrival shaft and removed.SOLUTION: An open shield machine 1, which is a shield machine having front, rear, and upper surfaces opened, has a body that can be separated into a front portion 18 and a tail portion 19, in which the tail portion 19 is further separable into a jack portion 20 having a shield jack 14 and a box suspension portion 21. In an arrival shaft 17, first, the front portion 18 is propelled by the shield jack 14 using a concrete box body 4 as a reaction force to remove it. Next, the jack portion 20 is similarly driven by the shield jack 14 by using the concrete box body 4 as a reaction force to remove it. The box suspension portion 21 is propelled or towed by a separately provided propulsion device or a towing device to be carried into the arrival shaft, and then removed.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
