System and method for aiding the landing of an aircraft in the event of a total failure of the engines of the aircraft. The landing aid system (10) of an aircraft (1) comprises a processing unit (14) configured to determine if there is a total failure of the engines of the aircraft and to, in the event of total aircraft engine failure: - determine a set of airports at which the aircraft could land from its current position, given its current energy and current configuration; - for each of the said airports, determine a landing strip on which the aircraft could land and at least one possible landing direction of the aircraft on this landing strip; - determine a reference point upstream of each landing strip, corresponding to a point of extension of the landing gear and transition from a smooth configuration of the aircraft to a non-smooth configuration to allow the aircraft to 'landing on the airstrip; and - controlling the display on a navigation screen (18) of the aircraft, of a representation (R1...R6) of each of said landing strips and of a representation (P1a, P1b...P6a, P6b) of the reference points associated with these airstrips.
