A method for forming a multilayer pigment, comprising the steps of: providing a metal core material, wherein the metal core material is Al coated with SiO2; dispersing the metal core material in a mixture of a first solvent and an organic binder, the organic binder in an amount of 0 , 5 to 10% by weight based on the core metal particle and the first solvent is present; depositing a high-index material on the metal core material; drying the deposited high-index and metal core material; the high-index layer having a thickness greater than 120 nm and the high-index layer uniform and is crack-free.
